Aaron Janik

"My partner Douglas and I created HornFX in an effort to create a new community of wind instrumentalists (and beyond!) to come together and share knowledge and experience of the pedal world. The network of horn players using pedals is quite vast, and we cannot wait to see what people are doing out there!

My personal philosophy on pedals is that I am hired to play trumpet first and foremost. It is the instrument I chose and love dearly, so any pedal I use is intended to merely enhance the natural sound of the trumpet and not to change it. My career exists mostly in the R&B, hip hop, gospel, and jazz world, so my goal with my pedal setup is to create the most cohesive sounding horn section sound possible."

Trumpeter and Massachusetts native Aaron Janik has been steeped in the discipline of music since the age of ten. His earliest introduction to music was by way of revered New England trumpeter Jack Martin.

Aaron furthered his studies at Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences as well as the Conservatory of Music by way of the great Wendell Logan, graduating in June 2013 with a Jazz Trumpet Performance degree and a Biology (Pre-Medical) degree. From that time on, Aaron has studied with and been mentored by trumpet greats Marcus Belgrave and Sean Jones.

Aaron now resides in Los Angeles, CA where he educates music students across the city and regularly performs and records with artists across the country, touring with chart-topping artists like R&B First Lady Faith Evans, Dwele, Kierra Sheard, and jazz legend Robin Eubanks. In the past couple years he has also performed with the Yellowjackets, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Micki Miller, Charlie Wilson, Lil Kim, 112, Total, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Les Nubians, the Clark Sisters, Gino Vanneli, Carl Thomas, Lisa Page-Brooks, Eric Roberson, and J Drew Sheard to name a few.

Aaron is also the co-founder of HornFX, an online community for wind instrumentalists to share information and experience in the world of pedal use. The site launched in January 2017, and the first HornFX curriculum was debuted at the Berklee College of Music summer five-week program to resounding success. Check out the website to become part of the HornFX family!

Aaron endorses B.A.C. trumpets and Denis Wick mouthpieces.

This was a dry mix of my sound plus the MXR Phase 90. The delay and panning added to the horn section in certain spots was done via Logic plug-ins.

Pedals: Digitech Bass Synth Wah, Boss DD-7 Digital Delay
